THE POSITION
As a member of the Estimation team, you will be accountable for reviewing potential tender opportunities, preparing take-offs, projecting accurate job costs, coordinating, and creating tender documents. Other accountabilities may include tracking market intelligence, understanding new products and trends as well as facilitating long-term customer relationships.
Job Summary:
The Estimator is responsible for assisting the Chief Estimator by performing preliminary estimates for the supply and installation of retrofit and new construction window, doors for commercial buildings.
Primary tasks are to review and summarize tender package and conduct material take-offs.
The ability to read and interpret architectural construction drawings is of paramount importance.
Experience: construction estimating: 5 years (preferred)
Job Details:
Location: 208 Queen St. N. (at Barton W.) in Hamilton
Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (2 paid breaks, ½-hour unpaid lunch).
Salary: $55,000 to $75,000 – will depend on experience/education, etc.

Job Tasks:
Read, interpret, understand, and summarize retrofit and new construction tender packages (specifications, scope of work, tender forms etc.)
Work from architectural drawings, specifications, blueprints, and shop drawings.
Recap, price and extend quantity and material takeoffs for windows etc.
Identify and summarize deviations or discrepancies within the tender package and drawings.
Request quotations from suppliers and review and enter supplier pricing in a detailed and organized manner.
Develop and maintain a pricing matrix for supplier materials.
Monitor work progress, complete logs, and update Chief Estimator about challenges.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements:
bachelor’s degree in related field, technical college or equivalent of technical training and related experience (architectural or construction diploma preferred)
Estimating experience in a similar field would be an asset.
Ability to read and interpret drawings and other construction-related documentation is critical.
Experience in construction relating to commercial windows, window wall systems, curtain wall, glazing is preferred.
Able to work independently and in a cooperative team environment.
Ability to work under pressure with focus to achieve deadlines.
Highly organized with strong work ethic
Excellent written and verbal English language skills
Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, and Excel
Experience with Solid Works / Bluebeam Revu is considered an asset.
